Divorce Planning (CDFA)

I have always been a firm believer that each story has three sides.  This becomes really clear when dealing with individuals in confrontation.  The offended party will have their side, the offending party another and of course listening to both stories there is the neutral party story that sees fault on both sides.

Divorce is pretty much the same story only it usually has three distinctive components;  the legal divorce, the financial divorce and the social divorce.  Each of these components is charged with emotion and usually brings out the worst in all people.

The legal divorce is the part where the client’s lawyer or mediator gets involved.  This is where both spouses argue about splitting the assets accumulated during marriage such as the matrimonial home, pensions, and investments and decide upon support issues whether that is for children or spousal support.  The legal divorce is usually the area that creates the most contention in a divorce.

The problem with this situation is although lawyers know the law; they are not experts on the financial aspects.
